SportsPro has just released its annual list of the Worlds Top 50 Most Marketable Athletes and it’s 21 year old Naomi Osaka who becomes only the second female athlete to take top spot.
It’s the tenth year, SportsPro has compiled their assessment of athletes from across the world, an assessment based on the athletes marketing potential over the coming three-year period.
In judging athlete potential, they factor in age, home market, crossover appeal, charisma and willingness to be marketed.
For the second year running, social media analytics and insights were also included, these based on how effective a promoter an athlete is on social media, regardless of their follower count.
Osaka is the second tennis player to take top spot on the list, the previous one being Eugenie Bouchard, who topped the list in 2015. Osaka is the first Asian to be named number one and in a positive trend, this year’s top 50 featured a record number of 16 female athletes.
